ABOUT
SCOTTISH CYCLING HOLIDAYS
Scottish
Cycling Holidays is currently owned and operated by the Crighton
Family, father Douglas, son Ian and daughter-in-law Janette.
The
company was founded in 1978 by Mr Kenneth Todd. After working in
England for many years Kenneth had returned to his native land and
from his small Cottage, Post Office and Shop in the tiny Perthshire
hamlet of Ballintuim he organised the first cycling holidays on
offer in Scotland. Kenneth was a staunch patriot and on arrival
at Ballintuim clients were greeted by a Scottish flag flying on
the flagpole and by Kenneth resplendent in his kilt.
Kenneth was retired and whilst most of the tours began and ended
at Ballintuim he also organised tours to the west of Scotland including
Mull, Skye and the Inner and Outer Hebrides. There is a limit to
what one person can look after and Scottish Cycling Holidays grew
only slowly in these early years. He died very suddenly in March,1995
and as near neighbours we were concerned that his hard work should
not be wasted and that the business should continue and hopefully
expand.
Douglas Crighton is involved mainly in planning and development,
Ian is the technical manager and Janette looks after administration.
Although we continued to operate from Ballintuim in the first year,
a move to offices in Ian's bicycle shop in the nearby town of Blairgowrie
has
provided the space necessary to accompany the growth of the company.
We currently store 80+ bikes and provide tours for our own clients
and also for the brochures of many Activity Holiday Companies throughout
the world. Further development has extended the range of our products
to include tours in several countries in mainland Europe.
COMPANY POLICY
Our aim is provide a quality product at a reasonable price and take
every opportunity to grow the company into Scotlands leading
cycle holiday provider. Already our turnover has trebled but we
realise that it is very important to maintain the personal touch
and attention to detail which Mr Todd began. With this in mind we
now have approximately 80 cycles not more than two years old at
our Blairgowrie Headquarters. In addition we have a database of
over four hundred accommodation providers most of whom we have personally
inspected. Each client group is met at the beginning of their tour,
given a briefing and the bikes are tested and adjusted. We are always
available to help during your tour particularly in an emergency.
