HISTORICAL ARTS & CITIES TOUR
Flanders and Europe's capital Brussels offer holiday joy for everyone. A cyclists paradise awaits you on this tour which follows quiet roads, cycle paths and tracks beside canals and waterways, through beautiful lush green landscapes. 90% of the route is signposted as it follows the Flanders Cycle route. This
tour features the historic Flemish cities of Brussels, Mechelen, Ghent and Bruges. Historical cities with magnificent buildings, cathedrals and museums abound. A rest day in Bruges allows you time to cycle to the Flemish North Sea coast to the beautiful seaside towns of Ostend and De Haan.
Our cycle tour begins in the capital, Brussels which has much to tempt you: Galleries and Museums, the stunning gothic Town Hall and market place, small streets and many Bistro Bars with a range of exquisite cuisine. From here you continue to the university city of Leuven and to our next destination Mechelen. St Rombouts Cathedral, a UNESCO world heritage site is a must to see with its fine Carillon of 29 melodic bells. From there cycle across
the Flemish countryside to Ghent to savour the atmosphere of days
gone by in its ancient town centre. Take a stroll through Ghent’s history with its backdrop of tiny houses overhanging the River Lys with their complex carved stonework. Well worth seeing is The Belfort
with its tower containing a carillon of 44 bells and St. Bavo's Cathedral
with the famous painting, "Adoration of the Lamb of God"
by Jan van Eyck. The historical centre of Bruges awaits us, with its picturesqe town centre, cobbled streets, 15th and 16th century architecture, probably makes it the most
beautiful of the Flemish historical cities. Itinerary
