Day
1. Arrive ABERDEEN:
take the chance to explore this beautiful city with its fine granite
buildings, parks, gardens and popular beach promenade. Route briefing,

2. ABERDEEN - ELLON
20ml (32km)
Arrive Aberdeen for an easy cycle on the old railway track
of the Formartine and Buchan Way. If time permits there are interesting
diversions to the excellent National Trust gardens of Pitmedden
or the sands and nature reserve at Forvie. Overnight at the small
town of Ellon
on the River Ythan.

2. ELLON - TURRIFF 27ml (43km)
Continue
on the Cycleway northwards to Maud and visit the Heritage museum
at Old Deer. Leaving the Buchan Way turn westwards to reach the
bustling farming town of Turriff and nearby 11th century
Delgatie Castle.
Day
3. TURRIFF - PORTSOY/FORDYCE 26ml (42km)
Reach the north coast at the historic town of Banff with its
many finely restored 18th century buildings. Nearby
there is the magnificent Adam mansion, Duff House which houses
some of the paintings of the National Galleries of Scotland. Continue
by the sea to another of the fishing villages Portsoy. Portsoy>>>>>>

5. PORTSOY/FORDYCE - ELGIN 30ml (48km)
Resume the coastal journey and perhaps visit Cullen House
or the "Buckie Drifter" before arriving at Spey Bay with its 19th
century Ice House Museum. Continue to the fishing and holiday
village of Lossiemouth and then arrive at the elegant city of
Elgin with its magnificent ruined medieval cathedral.

6. ELGIN - NAIRN 27ml (43km)
Enjoy the peaceful country roads on the way to the colourful
gardens of the town of Forres and continue by the old fishing
villages of Burghead and Findhorn to the historic house, Brodie
Castle. Your overnight destination is Nairn, a popular small seaside
town with an excellent sandy beach.

7. NAIRN - INVERNESS 23ml (37km)
Do not miss the opportunity to visit Cawdor Castle, one of
the best of Scotland's historic houses. Continue to the impressive
18th century fortress, Fort George and finally to the battlefield
of Culloden Moor where the defeat of Bonnie Prince Charlie's army
brought to an end the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745.
