Day 1. Arrive DALMALLY: visit the ruined Kilchurn Castle nearby. Evening: collect cycles and route briefing.Kilchurn Castle


Day 2. DALMALLY - KILMARTIN 32ml(51km
There are superb views today as you cycle by the shore of Loch Awe. At Kilmartin there are enigmatic carved rocks, mysterious standing stones, impressive burial cairns and the fortress of the earliest Scottish Kings. Examples of this rich archaeological heritage can be found displayed at the award-winning museum at Kilmartin House.


Day 3. KILMARTIN - TARBERT 24ml(38km)
Port Ellen, IslayCycle south to meet the towpath of
the Crinan Canal. Perhaps divert to visit Crinan Harbour before continuing to Lochgilphead and Tarbert on Loch Fyne, famous for its seafood.


Day 4. TARBERT - ISLAY 18ml(29km)
A short journey to the Islay ferry at Kennacraig. On arrival at Port Ellen perhaps celebrate with visit to a distillery and have a drop of the malt whisky for which this island is famous. Continue to your overnight stop at Bowmore.


Lagavulin DistilleryDays 5&6. EXPLORE ISLAY AND JURA.
The population of Islay is about 3,500 while Jura has less than 200 inhabitants. Islay is a large fertile island, an endless joy for ornithologists, photographers, artists and also whisky samplers! Visit the many distilleries, each with its own character and flavour, swim on any of the beautiful sandy beaches or take a boat trip. On nearby Jura the landscape is dominated by the two large mountains "the Paps of Jura". This unspoilt island is home to large herds of red deer and is famous for its single malt whisky.

 

Scalasaig, ColonsayDay 7. ISLAY - COLONSAY 10ml(16km)
The morning ferry from Port Askaig takes you on the short journey to Colonsay.Visit the woodland gardens of Colonsay House.

 

Day 8. COLONSAY
Peace, tranquillity and views without Kiloran Baycompare are the memories you will take from your visit to this beautiful small island. Explore the complete island and its smaller neighbour Oronsay. There have been 214 species of birds sighted, a kilometre of white sand at Kiloran Beach to enjoy and many remains of man's long habitation including standing stones, bronze age cairns, forts, duns and on Oronsay, the remains of an Augustinian Monastery.


Day 9. COLONSAY - OBAN
The evening ferry sails from Colonsay, through the Firth of Lorne, past the islands of Mull and Kerrera to enter Oban Bay and the end of your tour.


Day 10. OBAN - DALMALLY 26ml(41km)
Cycle through beautiful Glen Lonan to Taynuilt from where there is a wonderful boat trip on Loch Etive before ending the tour at Dalmally.
