Day
1. Arrive Orléans
Independent arrival to Orléans. Orleans has strong ties with a simple peasant girl, Joan of Arc who stormed the city in 1429 to overthrow English forces and restore Charles VII to the French throne. Reminders of Joan are everywhere not least in the Cathedrale Ste-Croix where her pedestal is protected by two golden leopards.
Day 2. Orléans - St. Dyé/Beaugency 27/33ml(43/53km)
You pedal along the Loire river alternating cycle path and minor roads. After a visit to the
Cathedral of Clery St. André you arrive to the castles of Meung sur Loire and Chateau
Dunois with the beautiful medieval centre of Beaugency. A land full of waters and culture
will draw the way to the little jewel of St. Dyé, an ancient river harbour.
Day 3. St. Dyé/Beaugency - Blois 31/25ml(50/40km)
From the huge park surrounding Chambord Castle continue to Cheverny Castle
through the forest of Boulogne. One last ride to the castle of Beauregard across the forest
of Beauregard before you arrive to Blois.
Day 4. Blois - Amboise 29ml(47km)
After the visit of the city of Blois and its impressive chateau, you pedal through forests until the
town of Onzain. Here it is possible to visit the chateau of Chaumont built on the top of a hill
overlooking the river. In Amboise you can not miss the house where Leonardo da Vinci
spent the last years of his live.
Day 5. Amboise-Tours 32ml(52km)
After the forest of Amboise you continue to Chenonceaux, known as the chateau of the three
ladies. You continue along the river Cher to the city of Tours. You might also decide to
stop for a visit at the castle of Nitray with its famous wine cellars.
Day 6. Tours-Chinon 30ml(48km)
Pedalling between the Loire and the Cher rivers you arrive at Villandry chateau, well known
for its gardens. A slope divides you from the chateau of Azay Le Rideau. Before arriving to
Chinon you can visit Ussé.
Day 7. Chinon-Saumur 31ml(50km)
The tour continues along country roads beyond the confluence between the rivers Loire
and Vienne arriving to Savigny en Vèron and the jewels of Candes St-Martin. A few
kilometres away there is the chateau of Montsoreau from where you can enjoy the
landscape over the Fontevraud Abbey. The end of the stage is Saumur, considered the
“Pearl of Anjou”.
