TOURS
IN PORTUGAL
Blessed
with a wonderful climate and spectacular scenery the Algarve is
the perfect holiday destination. There is much more to the Algarve
than just sunshine and golden beaches. It is ideal for cycling particularly
in the Spring and Autumn when the weather is cooler. When you feel
you need some sun after the long winter at home it is the ideal
place for a short breakaway. However, our Algarve holiday offers
something different, not only the customary sea and sand but a chance
to explore the quiet countryside north of the coastline. There are
plenty of flights to Faro with budget carriers and regular airlines
so take the chance to go and meet Potugal's friendly people and
sample the excellent sea food and fine wines for which it is renowned.
CYCLE WEST ALGARVE 7 nights/8 Days
This holiday offers you the opportunity to explore the unspoilt west Algarve beginning in the hills of the Serra de Monchique – the heart of the Monchique bio park. Here you have the opportunity to cycle around the hills before heading downhill & along the Seixe valley to the village of Odeceixe. The village lies just inland from the sea but in the Cape St Vincent Natural Park and for the remainder of your holiday your routes are all within the Park. You have a day to explore the coastline here before we transfer you south to ‘Lovers beach’ where you cycle the magnificent Pontal headland before travelling to Cape St Vincent (considered by the Romans to be the ‘end of the world’) and the port of Sagres. From here you cycle the southern margins of the Park exploring unspoilt beaches and the standing stones (3,000BC) of Monte das Amantes before finishing at the fishing village of Salema. You cycle on a mixture of quiet country roads and good tracks, busy main roads are avoided wherever possible and so are steep hills.

CYCLE CENTRAL ALGARVE 7 nights/8 Days
This holiday begins by the sea in Lagos once the home of Henry the Navigator and close to the Alvor estuary. You have chance to explore the unspoilt countryside around Lagos before leaving to travel eastwards, passing though a landscape that owes a great deal to the inventiveness of the Moors during their occupation. Your next stop is the town of Silves, the old Moorish capital of Portugal where their magnificent red sandstone castle has been restored and recent excavations have exposed other evidence of their advance society such as the steam rooms and baths. From here you travel north east to the village of Alte (considered by many guide books to be the prettiest in the Algarve) and then south to the town of Loule which was occupied by the Romans and Moors before your journey ends at the charming village of Estoi just north of Faro. Here there is so much to see and you will captivated by the cobbled streets, small squares, interesting houses, an Italinate Palace and Roman ruins.
The route uses quiet country roads and good tracks, we only use main roads when there is no other option and for only short distances, there are only a few short climbs. Itinerary
