Day
1.
arrive Bilboa/Santander airport, transfer to FONTIBRE.
Evening:
collect cycles and equipment.
Day
2. FONTIBRE - VILLANUEVA DE NÍA 33ml/56(53/89km)
Follow the river through the market town of Reinosa to the huge
reservoir and nature reserve of Pantano del Ebro and continue
to the old Roman settlement of Julióbriga. Cycle through
forests and then uphill to the Dominican monastery of Montesclaros.
Rejoin the Ebro as it winds through the valley of Valderredible
to Villanueva de Nía.
Day 3. VILLANUEVA DE NÍA - PESQUERA DE EBRO 33ml(53km)
Leaving Villanueva take the opportunity to visit the numerous
centuries old cave churches and in contrast the beautiful Romanesque
church of San Martín de Elines. Cycle through impressive
canyons where eagles and vultures circle overhead and visit the
fairytale village of Orbaneja de Castillo before emerging at Pesquera
de Ebro.

4. PESQUERA DE EBRO - QUINTANA DE VALDIVILSO 23/44ml(37/70km)
From Pesquera visit the village of Tudanca in its idyllic riverside
setting and follow the river through unspoilt villages and beautiful
countryside. Divert to the historic town of Medina de Pomar set
amidst arid landscape and dominated by its fine castle. Return
to the river to overnight at the tiny village of Quintana de Valdivielso.

5. QUINTANA DE VALDIVILSO - FRÍAS 23/34ml(37/54km)
From Quintana head south past another famed Romanesque church
at San Pedro de Tejada with its erotic medieval sculptures. Finally
you reach the enchanting City of Frías perched upon its
rock stronghold where nature and human architecture combine to
form a harmonious union.
Day 6. FRÍAS - HARO 26/39ml(41/62km)
From the valley of Frías, the river carves its way through
more impressive canyons. Cycle along the banks of the Embalse
del Sobrón reservoir to the gentler landscape around Miranda
del Ebro. Visit Santa Gadea del Cid where the legendary El Cid
swore allegiance to the king and finally reach the immense Rioja
valley and its wine capital, Haro. Sample the tapas bars in its
lively streets.
Day
7. HARO - LAGUARDIA 31ml(49km)
Take the opportunity to visit one of the large wine producing
bodegas before setting out today. The route travels through endless
seas of vineyards with the horizon dotted with castles
before reaching the fortified medieval village of Laguardia.
Day 8. Circular tour from LAGUARDIA
Rest day in Laguardia: visit Logroño, capital of La
Rioja region, and enjoy the varied tapas in the famous Calle Laurel.
Try other wine tasting in one of the local bodegas or enjoy a
ride around Laguardia and its environs.
Day
9. Depart LAGUARDIA
Transfer to Bilbao/Santander Airport or optional stay in Bilboa to visit
the Guggenheim Museum.
