Day
1. Arrive INVERNESS:
collect cycles and equipment, route briefing and instruction.
Inverness, now a thriving modern town has historical links going
back to Neolithic times. Many battles have been fought for control
of this strategic site. A visit to the Garrison Castle Encounter
will take you back to 1745 and the Jacobite Rebellion.
Day
2. INVERNESS - GAIRLOCH 30ml(48km)
A mid morning train takes you out of Inverness into the beautiful
scenery of the Highlands. Alight at the remote station of Achnasheen
and cycle by the shore of Loch Maree to reach the busy fishing
port of Gairloch on the west coast Gairloch's attractions include its fine beaches, a golf course and an award - winning heritage museum.

3. GAIRLOCH - ULLAPOOL 56ml(90km)
Leave
Gairloch on the road to Poolewe and perhaps visit the famous Inverewe
Gardens. Some climbing is required to enjoy the wonderful sea
view on the approach to Aultbea and then follow the coast to Dundonnell
on Little Loch Broom. Continue inland to Strath More and cycle by Loch Broom to reach Ullapool.

4. ULLAPOOL - LOCHINVER 28ml(45km)
A
long climb out of Ullapool before branching off the main road
towards the coast on the minor road to Achiltibuie. An exhilerating
ride by the sea on the steep, twisiting, poorly surfaced road
which takes you to Lochinver. The village and fishing port is at the heart of Assynt - with all the necessary tourist facilities. Perhaps visit the Assynt visitors centre where there are displays and information on the Assynt area. Ullapool>>>>

5. LOCHINVER - SCOURIE 36ml(58km)
If
you thought yesterday’s ride was exciting just wait! Take the main road out of Lochinver
climbing to the junction with the minor coast road. From there
it is twisting, undulating journey on a poorly surfaced road with
many blind bends. But
OH! What SCENERY! The Coastline of Assynt is a mixture of cliffs, rocky inlets and unspoilt sandy beaches - at Achmelvich, Clachtoll, Stoer and Clashnessie. Continue to Kylesku and cross this stunning Bridge opened in 1984 which replaced the old ferry service.

6. SCOURIE - LAIRG 44ml(70km)
A
longer journey today but on quiet smooth lochside roads. Cycle
eastwards by the banks of Lochs Stack, More, Merkland and Shin

7. LAIRG - TAIN 31ml(50km)
An easy day as you cycle along Strath Fleet to the east coast
and the popular small resort of Dornoch with its golden sands
and famous golf course. A short journey to
the Dornoch Firth and across the bridge to Tain. Discover one of Scotland's hidden treasures at Tain Through Time, a visitor centre on a historica site where the rich story of the ancient burgh of Tain unfolds around you. Dornoch
